Dear Citadel Football Association:
First and foremost, thank you to all the fans who made the trip to Wofford to support us in our last conference matchup of the year. It was a great weekend for the Bulldogs, as we were able to overcome early adversity to come away with a great conference win. We brought the Big Dog trophy back to its rightful home in Charleston and accomplished our goal of sentencing Wofford to a losing season. It was a great win for the young men who are starting to see the fruits of their labor after a grueling offseason training program. Memories like that will last for a lifetime. The defense played great in the second half, allowing 0 points, although we are never satisfied both defensively and as a team.
Highlights:
- Graduate student running back, Cooper Wallace rushed for his season high with 84 yards and an explosive 54-yard touchdown run in the 3rd
- Sophomore outside linebacker, Jeremiah Holmes had a sack and game-sealing interception in the 4th
- Junior kicker, Ben Barnes went 3 of 4 with a long of 44 with a crucial kick going into halftime.
- Senior wide receiver, Javonte Graves-Billups had 4 catches for 68 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Coaches Notes
- Our defense is 16th in the country in 3rd down efficiency.
- Our defense is 11th in the country in both red zone defense and scoring defense.
- Our offense is 1st in the conference in TFLs allowed.
- Graduate student quarterback Johnathan Bennett is 15th in the country in yards per reception.
- Graduate student wide receiver Dervon Pesnell is 11th in the country in yards per catch.
Clemson
We have a big game this weekend, but only because it is the next one. All three phases of the game will have to be at their best to achieve the outcome that we want. We will have to play complimentary football by sustaining long drives and winning the field position battle in special teams. Clemson’s offense is high powered, led by quarterback Cade Klubnik, and running back Phil Mafah. We will have to play top-down defense and limit the big plays in order to be successful in Death Valley.
Sincerely,
Maurice T. Drayton
