Dear Citadel Football Association Members:

This was a big weekend for the Bulldogs. All three Citadel fall sports teams went undefeated on Saturday.  Volleyball, Soccer, and Football all won their respective matches.  Around these parts, we need to celebrate those victories.  I’d like to thank all the Citadel faithful who supported these three teams.  I’d also like to thank several individuals in our Athletic Department who help keep this ship running: Wendie Palermo, Mike Capaccio and Joni Stephens.  These three are absolute rockstars for our program and for Citadel Athletics in general.  While were speaking of Citadel Athletics, Volleyball, Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, Rifle, Tennis, Cheerleading, Track, and Wrestling were all in attendance Saturday to cheer our guys on.  We really, really appreciate their support.  We would not have been able to bring home a City Championship without our athletic department being together, in alignment, swimming in the same direction.

After Saturday’s win, I was happy for the school.  I was happy for the Citadel faithful.  I was happy for those who endured last season with us.  But most importantly, I was happy for our players.  Every time I step on the field, I expect to win.  My personal feelings aside, I don’t do this for myself.  We, as coaches, do it for the players.  I told our coaches and players early in the week that I’m not doing this for me.  I’m doing it for them and their kids and their kid’s kids.  I’m doing it for all those that sacrificed or have to feel sacrifice.  Those are the people we do this for.  And I’m happy we brought them home a victory.

Sincerely,

Coach Maurice Drayton
