Dear Citadel Football Association Members:
I would like to start by thanking everyone who came to support us this weekend, it ended up being a beautiful day for football. Big thanks to our Athletic Director, Mike Capaccio, for working with a private donor to get sideline iPads for the staff, those made a tremendous difference. I would like to thank our Video Coordinator Dennis Carlson and the IT department for all their hard work in getting these iPads up and running so we were able to use them this week.
It was a great weekend to be a Bulldog, I am very excited about our win last week against NGU. It was a complete team win, with big performances from the offense scoring 54 points, our defense holding them to a goose egg, and a big block for a touchdown on special teams. It was also very nice to see our players running up into the stands to celebrate the win with the Corps of Cadets after the alma mater. One of the things that I really like about this team is that we are competing for the entire game. As we move forward into our second stage of the season, we are entering into our Scholarship segment of the year. This stage is heavily focused on FBI, or football intelligence, and we will place a strong emphasis on diving into the film in a different manner than before.
Looking ahead to Mercer, they come in at 3-0 and ranked #14. The bears have a very stout defense led by 3 senior linebackers who have played a lot of football together over the last 3 years. This is a defense that has allowed only 13 points in 3 games. One of the reasons they are so solid defensively is because they are able to make in game adjustments quickly because of their experience, and that is what we hope to get to soon as a defensive unit. Offensively we will look to take what the defense gives us, but ultimately our goal is to run the ball and control the clock. This week, the main goal is to keep the main thing the main thing, play assignment football and find the weaknesses in their team and exploit them.
Go Dogs!
Sincerely,
Maurice T. Drayton
