Dear Citadel Football Association:
Thank you to all the fans who came out to support us this past weekend, we had a great crowd show up for Homecoming. We played hard, but you cannot turn the ball over 3 times against a good opponent and expect to win. Chattanooga is a nationally ranked football team with an explosive offense and a stout defense. We cannot help teams like that with 7 penalties and 3 turnovers.
The staff did a great job at halftime of adjusting and coming up with a plan to attack the second half, beginning with Cooper’s long touchdown run. It was nice to see our kickoff unit execute and recover the surprise onside and steal a possession. Our specialists do a great job in practice each week of practicing specialty plays and kicks.
Looking forward to Wofford, they are led by head coach, Shawn Watson. Their defensive coordinator, Johnathan Saxon, played for me at South Carolina State, so there is a bit of familiarity there. Offensively, their running back Ryan Ingram is the engine that makes the car go. We will have to clean up our tackling this week to keep him contained. They have played 3 different players at quarterback, each with different skillsets, so we will have to prepare for all the different challenges they present. The Wofford defense this year has forced 10 fumbles, 12 interceptions, and 15 sacks, and they have been playing complimentary football as well. This game is for a trophy, and we look to bring it back to its rightful place in Charleston. With a win this week we will sentence Wofford to a losing season.
